Kansas City VA Medical Center-2.5 Floor Renovation KCVAMC

Scope of project:
A complete demolition and renovation of 2 ½ floors, including new finishes, MEP and additional HVAC Unit.  Also included in this project was asbestos abatement of the entire construction area. Brigadier is the Prime Contractor responsible for all activity associated with the construction.  Project was divided into two phases, phase 1 work included 3 half wing renovations to allow relocation to begin phase 2 work, which included 1 (5th floor)  half wing and 1 (10th floor)  partial wing.

Additional Project Information and Building Elements:  
Project required close coordination with staff to accomplish work in occupied areas. Replacement of significant portions of the utility infrastructure was accomplished in the project

Unique Project Challenges or Accomplishments:

The project was implemented within an existing medical facility and with minimal disruption to the operation of the facility. Some measures taken to accomplish include phasing of the project into 2 phases.  One wing of three floors is part of phase one, while the other wing of 2 floors is part of the second phase.  The utilization of outside equipment elevators and cranes were utilized to minimize construction traffic through the hospital during construction operations.
